Pre & Post Care

BROWS

Pre Care Instructions

Existing work

If you have any existing work it is important to send clear photos of your existing work up close as well as a full face photo with your eyes closed.  If no photos are received and I am not able to work on them on the day, your deposit will be forfeited.

Botox and skin treatments

There needs to be 2 weeks post Botox and skin treatments. This is to have your skin at its best integrity to prevent permanent scarring.

Retinol/ Vit A / Retin A / Tretinoids

Please stop using any of these products 2 weeks prior to your appointment

Medications

Please refrain from taking any pain killers or blood thinning medication such as aspirin 2 days prior to your appointment. IMPORTANT: Please make sure from your doctor if medication is prescribed before you stop using any medication.  If you have been on blood thinners for a long period of time, there would be no need to stop taking them.  Please note that you might bleed more which can prevent pigment from sticking and absorbing, which means more sessions might be required.

Alcohol and Caffeine.

Please avoid drinking alcohol for 48 hours before our appointment.

Please avoid drinking caffeine on the day of your appointment.  This includes tea as well.

Aftercare

Aftercare is designed to prevent scabbing or excessive scabbing.  We also want to keep them clean and bacteria free, preventing infection.  The goal is to keep scabs (if there are any) on as long as possible

Day 0 ( Day of appointment)

Use anti bacterial wipes hourly to blot brows on the first day. Make sure to use a fresh wipe on each side. Then use dry pads to dry your brows.

-This is the most important step.  This step ensures no scabs will form which is the ultimate healing.  If you can get this step right, you will most likely be able to get away without needing a touch up

Day 0 to 14

Morning and Evening:  Wash your hands.  Take a drop of the soap (provided), between your fingers and dab on your brows.  Gently wash your brow in little circles to dissolve any of the plasma (fluid) build up.  If it doesn’t dissolve, do not encourage or pick. It will scab but that is fine.  Use your cotton pads and your prepared water from Day 0 to get the soap off, then use dry pads to dry.

If you notice your scabs are getting really dry and pulling tight you are allowed to apply a rice grain amount of Aftercare Cream (provided) once a day.  Make sure to dab it so that it absorbs into the brows and they are dry again.  Please note to only use it if necessary.  Overdoing the aftercare can also cause the opposite.

Keep your brows dry – Showering and face washing.  No swimming and no excessive sweating for 7 days.

Sleep on your back.  Side sleeping can cause the scabs to peel prematurely on the tail end of the brow, which causes the pigment to rip out.

*Please keep in mind the following*

On the day of getting your brows they will seem very bold and dramatic.  They do fade around 40%.  In the first week they will be even darker.  This is due to scabbing and not a result of the colour underneath.

When the scabbing/skin naturally flakes, they will seem lighter than expected.  This is due to the new skin layer that has not matured yet and is not as translucent as the normal top layers of the skin.  This layer matures or sheds between week 4 and week 6.  Only after 6 weeks we are able to see the results and do a touch up accordingly.  Mature clients will need to wait 8 weeks before they can get a touch up.

Physical pre care

Please make sure that your lips are hydrated and moisturized for the appointment.  For some this might mean that they will need to use Chapstick for about 2 weeks prior.

Please exfoliate your lips morning and evening for 3 days prior to the appointment.  You can use any inexpensive lip scrub.  Or you can make your own with sugar and petroleum jelly (Vaseline)

Cold sores

Please use an over the counter antiviral (like Lysine), twice a day, for 7 days prior to the appointment.  This is just a precaution even if you have never experienced a cold sore before.

If you have ever experienced a cold sore in your life, it is recommended to visit your doctor and get prescribed antivirals as this treatment does cause a heavy flareup.  Please take note that the antivirals may not prevent cold sores entirely but will help lessen them and speed up the recovery.

Aftercare

Aftercare is designed to prevent scabbing or excessive scabbing.  We also want to keep them clean and bacteria free, preventing infection.  The goal is to keep scabs (if there are any) on as long as possible

Day 0 ( Day of appointment)

Clean your lips hourly with cooled down boiled bottled water and cotton pads.  Don’t over wet the pad.  Squeeze out the excess water. Make sure to use a fresh pad on every time. Then use dry pads to dry your lips.

-This is the most important step.  This step ensures no scabs will form which is the ultimate healing.  If you can get this step right, you will most likely be able to get away without needing a touch up

Day 0 to 8 ( or until scabs have finished peeling)

Morning and Evening + Every time you have consumed food or a beverage:  Wash your hands.  Take a drop of the soap (provided), between your fingers and dab on your lips.  Gently wash your lips in little circles to wash and dissolve any of the plasma (fluid) build up.  If it doesn’t dissolve, do not encourage or pick. It will scab but that is fine.  Use your cotton pads and your prepared water from Day 0 to get the soap off, then use dry pads to dry.

Your lips have to stay wet to prevent scabs to crack, as this can be painful.  Apply the oil (provided) 4 times a day and in between apply the A&D aftercare sachet (Provided)

You will have to drink with a straw

Eat dry foods and use utensils to cut in smaller pieces to avoid touching the lips.

No kissing until scabs have peeled.

**Please keep in mind the following**

On the day of getting your lips done they will seem very bold and dramatic.  They do fade around 60%.  In the first week they will be even darker.  This is due to scabbing and not a result of the colour underneath.

When the scabbing/skin naturally flakes, they will seem lighter than expected.  This is due to the new skin layer that has not matured yet and is not as translucent as the normal top layers of the skin.  This layer matures or sheds between week 6 and week 8.  Only after 8 weeks we are able to see the results and do a touch up accordingly.  Mature clients and Dark lip neutralization clients will need to wait 12 weeks before they can get a touch up.
